A 3-year-old waskilled in a hit-and-run crash that ejected him from a vehicle on Detroit's east side Thursday evening, police said. 

A 3-year-old girl, an 11-year-old girl and the 27-year-old female driver of a burgundy Dodge Caravan were taken to a hospital with unknown injuries, police said. The 3-year-old boy who was killed was in the rear of the minivan in a car seat when he was ejected in the collision, police said. 

The two other children also were properly restrained, they said.

The crash happened about 7 p.m. on Seven Mile Road and Hayes Street, according to police. The victims were traveling eastbound on east Seven Mile when it was struck from behind, according to police. 

Police said they believe a gold Chrysler 300 was involved in the incident.
