Police: Man shot by Warren officers after pointing weapon
Warren — A man described by police as drunk was shot by Warren officers Wednesday after pointing a weapon, authorities said.
Warren police officers were dispatched on a 911 call at 1:40 p.m. in the 5500 block of Hartlein Drive on reports of a suicidal man with a gun, said William Dwyer, Warren police commissioner.
Two officers entered the residence, where they found a man on the basement stairs.
"Intoxicated, he pointed a weapon on the two officers," Dwyer said. "They fired a gunshot on the subject, fearing for their lives."
Dwyer said the man was taken to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his groin and was listed in stable condition.
The two officers have been placed on paid administrative leave while the department investigates the incident, Dwyer said.
