Royal Oak — A 24-year-old Flat Rock man was likely inebriated when he ignored a crossing signal early Sunday, walked across a set of train tracks and was killed when struck by a passing train.

Police responded to a 911 call from a citizen reporting that a pedestrian had been hit by a train near 6th and Center, Royal Oak Lt. Lt. Keith Spencer said in a press release.

"A preliminary investigation determined the man was attempting to cross the tracks outside the designated crossing area and disregarded the crossing signals," Spencer said. "Alcohol is believed to be a factor."

The man was pronounced dead at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital, Spencer said.

Royal Oak police, Oakland County Sheriffs and CN Railroad are investigating the case, Spencer said.

Anyone with information is asked to call (248) 246-3456.
