MSP: Multi-vehicle crash closed WB I-696 at Dequindre Thursday morning
Michigan State Police continue to investigate a crash that closed westbound Interstate 696 at Dequindre for hours Thursday morning.
The crash, which involved multiple vehicles, happened at about 6:30 a.m., authorities said.
According to a preliminary investigation, a blue Chevrolet vehicle, a white Chevrolet vehicle and a gray Ford were traveling west in the right center lane when the Ford's driver lost control of the vehicle and drove across multiple lanes and crashed into the blue vehicle.
The Ford also struck the white vehicle and crashed into the center median, officials said. It's possible the driver suffered a medical issue, officials said.
Medics arrived and took the Ford's driver, a 34-year-old male, to a hospital where he is in intensive care, Michigan State Police said.
The drivers of the other two vehicles were also taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
Troopers closed the freeway to conduct an investigation into the crash and the lanes reopened shortly after 10 a.m.
